How scanning works
You open the scanner, hold the barcode in view, and Talorie looks it up.
- If the product is in the database it appears at once with its values
- If it is not, Talorie offers to add it under that barcode
- You photograph the label and the nutrition values are read from it
- You check the values, save, and the product exists for everyone
When a barcode gives nothing
Fresh produce, bread from the bakery and most vegetables carry no usable barcode. Those you search by name, or turn into a product yourself.
It also happens that one barcode covers several pack sizes. Talorie therefore also looks for variants with leading zeros, so a code from a till system works just as well.
The database stays everyone's
Products people add are visible to all users. If something is wrong you propose a change; an administrator approves it and the correction applies everywhere.

How many products can I scan?
The database holds close to a million products. Whatever is missing you add yourself in a minute.
Does the scanner work in poor light?
The scanner focuses itself and uses your phone camera. In dark rooms it helps to hold the pack closer.
Can I work without scanning?
Yes. Searching by name or brand works just as well, and you can enter a product entirely by hand.
